David Bertolino hails from Mt.Pleasant,Ohio where began wrestling at the age of 8. He went on to become an Undefeated Ohio State Champion and a top 3 recruit in the country at his weight class of 160lbs. After graduating from Buckeye Local High School in 2003, he was then recruited to wrestle for Iowa State University under legendary coach Bobby Douglas. After redshirting his first year at 174lbs., he went on to become a 4 year starter and Senior Captain in 2008 after jumping two weight classes to 197lbs and ultimately becoming 2008 Div. I NCAA All-American.
One of David's greatest mentor, coach, and training partner for the duration of his 5 years at ISU was 2004 Olympic Champion Cael Sanderson. After graduation, David continued his quest for glory, wrestling on the freestyle international scene for 2 years. He first took his training and coaching skills to the University of Oklahoma where he trained, traveled, and competed all over the United States and world.
In August of 2009, David made a life changing commitment to take his training to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO where he would train with the best in the country under the coaching of 2000 Olympic Champion Brandon Slay and 2006 World Champion Bill Zadick. David has competed on the international scene for 2 seasons at 84kg where he climbed the Olympic Ladder rankings to 3rd at 84kg. He was also chosen to represent the U.S. at the Pan-American Games in 2010 at 84kg.
David has seen the best, been coached by the best, and wrestled the best the world has to offer during his career traveling and competing with the U.S. National Team. In addition to training in freestyle wrestling, he also has traveled periodically to California to help train and prepare MMA fighters for upcoming fights. Some of Davids MMA sparing partners include Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Muhammed "King MO" Lawal. He has since moved to Dallas, TX where his passion is to now coach and pass along all his knowledge and wisdom he has obtained about the sport of wrestling, that he has been so blessed to receive during his career. David is the Head Wrestling Instructor at GMCSC, while also continuing do camps, clinics, and private lessons all over the country.
